For the mixdown, I mixed the song “Bankroll” by Tytillidie x Xollllinnnn
The stems for the song “Bankroll” by Tytillidie x Xollllinnnn were available on Cambridge-mt.com
I chose this song because the song is a very relaxed, chilled, hip hop song, which is primarily what I like to work on and what I hope to continue to work on in the future, as it’s one of my favorite genres. It’s also more fun to me to mix songs that are relaxed, so you have more headroom for stereo width, reverb, and other atmospheric effects, as apposed to loud, crushed, and distorted songs which, while fun, can leave me with less creative space to create a particular atmosphere. Loud, busy, and heavily compressed songs typically are intended to be as loud and as hectic as possible, which leaves less creativity in mixing I feel.
I mixed the stems audio levels to get a clean balance, added equalization on every element to accentuate the best sounds, and to eliminate the frequencies that clashed together. Essentially putting a low-cut filter on everything but the bass and kick to make those low frequencies stay clear, I also boosted the vocals in the mid-high range of frequencies, and in the very high frequencies to give it clarity. Compressed the vocals and piano to make them loud, clear, and tamed. Arranged the drums in a way that separated sections and added excitement. Panned ad-lib vocals to give more width. Multipressor compressed the final product with a boosted limiter to make it nice and loud, while not feeling too crushed.
